HOLY WEEK READING

Before you can fully appreciate or celebrate the wonder and glory of the Resurrection on Easter Morning, you must “walk the road to Calvary” with our Lord during Holy Week.  Come and join us as we take that walk each evening of Holy Week.

Our 2024 Holy Week Services will be held in the sanctuary each night from Palm Sunday, March 24, through Good Friday, March 29. They will begin at 7:00 pm. Please join us for these meaningful services and feel free to wear casual clothes. There will also be special music each evening. Copies of Reading for Holy Week, including large print editions, will be available for those who do not have their own copy.

Lent, the holy season of preparation prior to Easter, culminates with Holy Week.  This week has long been a special time of worship for Moravians.  It is a time when we remember the last week of our Lord’s earthly life.  To aid in this effort, we assembled a book that is a “harmony of the Gospel accounts for the sufferings, death, resurrection and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  That book, known years ago as The Passion Week Manuel, is today called Readings for Holy Week.  We will follow this book during our Holy Week services again this year.

On Maundy Thursday (March 28), following the readings, we will have Holy Communion.

On Good Friday (March 29), On Good Friday, following the readings, we will hold a traditional Lovefeast. As this service marks the death of our Lord, its mood is more somber and reflective than a normal Lovefeast. During it you are invited to meditate on the real meaning of Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross for you.
