The lovefeast, used on many special occasions including Christmas, is a worship service signifying brotherly love while sharing a simple meal of coffee and a slightly sweetened bun. It is celebrated in the spirit of the agape meal of the early Christians as they gathered to express their love for the Savior and for one another. The service is not a sacrament of the church.

Christmas Lovefeast Services
The Christmas Lovefeast and Candle Services of the Moravian Church are among the most beautiful and inspirational of all the Christmas worship services. We at Clemmons Moravian are delighted to host three services on Christmas Eve, December 24th. The services will begin at 4:00 pm, 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm respectively. Many Christians, from various denominations, agree that “it just isn’t Christmas until we attend a Moravian Lovefeast and Candlelight service.” Have you ever stopped to ask yourself what it is that makes these services so special? One thing that occurs to me is the fact that these services engage all of our senses. We Hear the marvelous music and familiar words of scripture that tell of God’s coming to us as the “Babe of Bethlehem.” We Smell the warm, rich coffee and beeswax candles. We Taste that coffee and the semi-sweet buns. And we Touch the cups, the buns, the candles, and the hands of our brothers and sisters in Christ as we greet each other in worship. But there is more… even beyond the engagement of all our senses, lies that mysterious communion of our spirits with the very Spirit of God.
As we worship, God’s spirit comes to us in a way we cannot explain or fully understand. Yet we feel Him moving within our hearts and souls. Suddenly we become aware of the magnitude of God’s gift to us and we are deeply humbled. But then He multiplies our gratitude and magnifies our joy so that we cannot possibly keep it inside! When we raise our candles high on the last hymn verse on our odes, we once again commit ourselves to all these things throughout the coming year. This is God’s spirit at work within us and among us. So plan to join us at Clemmons Moravian Church for our Christmas Eve Lovefeasts and Candlelight Services on December 24th. And don’t forget to come early as our sanctuary is filled for each service.
